The Green Room is a beachfront Mexican seafood restaurant at Villa Santa Cruz, a boutique beach hotel on Camino a Las Playitas, just north of the La Pastora surf break outside Todos Santos. Tables and Adirondack chairs sit on the sand facing the Pacific, around a palapa-roofed bar hung with lanterns, and fire pits are lit on the beach in the evening. The kitchen describes its food as elevated Mexican seafood with a casual vibe: tostadas, gourmet tacos, raw fish plates and a short list of mains. It opens every day from 1 pm to 10 pm, the kitchen closes at 9 pm, and tables can be booked on OpenTable. Starters run from 360 to 420 pesos, tostadas and tacos from 290 to 460, and the three mains are 720 pesos each, with the 16 percent tax included.
The name comes from surfing: the green room is the space inside the barrel of a wave, where sunlight turns the water a translucent green. The menu names its dishes after Baja surf breaks, from Salsipuedes to K38, and there is no dress code, so board shorts, bikinis and bare feet are welcome. The hotel says you are likely to spot whales, pelicans or an osprey over the Pacific from here. The bar pours margaritas, its own Green Room mezcal and signature cocktails such as the Sex Wax, with mezcal, roasted pineapple, lime and chili syrup. Since March 2020 the restaurant and Villa Santa Cruz have been co-owned by two couples, Matt and Jessica and Guillermo and Joyce. The last stretch of the drive is a dirt road over a cattle guard, and a green light marks the gate.
On the sand at La Pastora — The Infatuation names it the Todos Santos pick for a Baja Sur sunset and one of the only Todos Santos restaurants actually on the water.
Fire pits and lounge chairs — a seating area with lanterns and fire pits, and a row of Adirondack chairs facing the ocean that is worth arriving early for.
Elevated seafood, casual setting — temaris, sashimi and tuna tostadas arrive carefully plated at simple wooden tables on the sand.
Farm-picked cocktails — the signature cocktails use ingredients picked from the hotel farm, and the bar pours its own Green Room mezcal in joven, reposado and añejo.
Salsipuedes Temaris — Thin slices of salmon, tuna and yellowtail served sashimi-style on rice with wasabi guacamole, chipotle mayo and microgreens.
Calafia Sashimi — Sliced catch of the day with sesame oil, citrus soy, avocado and nori powder, with fried sticky rice balls on the side.
Magbay Tostadas — Three corn tostadas with fresh tuna marinated in a dried chile sauce, shrimp, grilled vegetables, chile morita and guacamole.
3M's Rajas Tacos — Crisp mini tacos filled with shrimp and creamy poblano strips, served with greens, guacamole and salsas.
Pescadero Beach Skewers — Three skewers of flank steak, salmon and shrimp in a spicy Thai glaze, with truffle mashed potatoes and grilled green onions.
Corn Flan — Corn flan with red berries, dulce de leche and vanilla ice cream, finished with a corn-milk infusion and lavender.
Hours: Open daily, 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The kitchen closes at 9:00 PM.
