Abigail Sport Fishing

Abigail Sport Fishing is a family-owned charter operation based at Marina Puerto Los Cabos in San José del Cabo. The company says it began with Captain Pablo Aripez, a fisherman born and raised in La Playa, the fishing village where the San José del Cabo marina now stands, who named his boat after his first daughter, Abigail. Today the fleet is run by his son, Pablo Aripez Jr., and the business is also known as La Playa Fishing Charters. According to the operator, its captains and crew are local fishermen from La Playa, many of them relatives.

The fleet page lists eleven boats from 26 to 45 ft: four super pangas, a 26-ft center console, three cruisers of 28, 32 and 33 ft, two center consoles of 34 and 37 ft and a 45-ft Riviera yacht. Rates are published per boat in US dollars, from $600 for a super panga to $2,200 for the largest boats, for private trips of six hours (six to seven on some boats). The operator states that each rate covers fishing licenses, bait, ice, drinks, snacks and fish cleaning. A 10% deposit on the operator's booking page holds the booking, and the balance is paid in cash on the day of the trip.

Trips leave early in the morning (the site lists 5:30 AM in summer and 6:30 AM in winter), and afternoon outings are offered when the weather allows. The operator names Inner and Outer Gordo Banks, Imán Bank, San Luis Bank and Vinorama Bank among its fishing grounds and says that, depending on season and conditions, its crews target yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dorado (mahi-mahi), marlin and bottom fish using live bait, trolling, drifting and jigging. Vacuum sealing and freezing of the catch is offered at $3 USD per pound. The operator says hotel transportation can be arranged, but its booking page lists transportation as not included, so ask about the cost when you book.
