Cabo in January: Weather, Whales and What’s On
The coolest month of the year, whales in season and quieter weeks once the holidays end.
The short answer
January is Cabo’s coolest month and one of its driest: highs of about 78 °F (25 °C), evenings near 62 °F (17 °C) and 0.8 rainy days on average in Cabo San Lucas. Whales are in season, and hotels quiet down after the first week of the year.

There is no tropical storm risk: the hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30, and in the record since 1949 no tropical storm passed within 200 km of Los Cabos during a January week (0%). Live storm status.
What to pack
Resort wear for the day, but evenings drop to about 62 °F (17 °C): bring a light jacket or sweater, especially for boat trips and nights out. The sun is still strong, so pack high-SPF sunscreen.
In the water

Crowds
Hotels in Los Cabos were 76% full in January 2025 (DataTur, preliminary). The New Year week is among the busiest of the year (84.1% from December 29, 2025 to January 4, 2026); the following week dropped to 70.4%.
