Cocina de Autor delivers a world-class culinary experience within Grand Velas Los Cabos, where contemporary gastronomy becomes a multi-course sensory journey. Drawing on Mexican ingredients and international technique, each dish is a testament to creativity, precision, and artistic presentation. Its refined atmosphere, impeccable service, and Michelin recognition place it among the most prestigious dining rooms in Los Cabos.

In May 2024, Cocina de Autor was awarded one MICHELIN Star in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Mexico — the only starred restaurant in Los Cabos — and the recognition was retained for 2025. The room is set within Grand Velas Los Cabos, an all-inclusive resort that holds the rare distinction of being the only all-inclusive in the world simultaneously rated Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond, and MICHELIN-starred. The dining experience begins with a cocktail at the Cocina de Autor bar; guests are then escorted through a bougainvillea-strewn approach to the dining room, where a few choice tables overlook a koi pond and the Sea of Cortez beyond.

What to order. Two multicourse tasting menus are offered nightly — typically eight to ten courses — woven through global techniques applied to native Mexican ingredients. MICHELIN inspectors have specifically called out the kitchen's totoaba cured with jalapeño, served beneath a domed cover with a red-star motif; a bluefin tuna tart with uni, ginger, and lemon; a triple-seared Angus beef; and a spiny lobster finished with basil sauce. Optional wine pairing is offered at upcharge through the restaurant's sommelier program (ages 18+ only).

The chefs. Executive Chef Francisco Sixtos — a Jalisco native who took over the kitchen in 2021 — leads the daily brigade. The menu draws on a long-running collaboration with consulting chef Sidney Schutte, who holds two MICHELIN Stars at Spectrum in Amsterdam; some headlines that reference "two stars" describe the Velas group's combined total (Los Cabos and Riviera Maya each hold one), not a two-star rating here.

Best for. Gastronomic experience seekers, milestone anniversaries, and special-occasion fine dining. Service is dinner-only, 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM nightly, ages 18+ only. The dress code is elegant / resort-formal: collared shirts and trousers for men, dresses or evening trousers for women; no beach sandals, tank tops, or shorts.

Getting there. Carretera Transpeninsular Km 17, Corredor Turístico, between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Reservations are required and fill quickly — resort guests should book on arrival day with a $50 USD per-person no-show fee and 48-hour cancellation. Recognition. Beyond its MICHELIN Star, Cocina de Autor became the first all-inclusive restaurant in the world to receive the AAA Five Diamond Award. The resort itself, Grand Velas Los Cabos, holds Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star designation, AAA Five Diamond, and offers seven additional dining outlets — Frida, Lucca, Piaf, Velas 10, Cabrilla, Sen Lin, and Azul — making it one of the most ambitious culinary properties in Latin America.
