    About

Omakai is a Japanese sushi and omakase restaurant in historic downtown San José del Cabo, one block from the Art Walk on Calle Ignacio Zaragoza. Listed in the MICHELIN Guide for Mexico in 2024 and 2025, Omakai focuses on traditional Edomae-style sushi and a chef-led omakase counter, with much of the fish sourced from the local waters of La Paz and Ensenada. The restaurant pairs a sushi counter with a cocktail bar and an outdoor patio by the fountain, serving from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM Tuesday through Sunday.

The format favors small-format precision: hand-pressed nigiri, daily-changing sashimi, and a chef’s omakase that progresses from light sashimi to richer toro, salmon belly with truffle, sea urchin, and the house-made pork belly gyoza. Omakai is operated by the Heiwa Cabo restaurant group, the same team behind several other San José del Cabo dining concepts.

    Why Omakai Stands Out

MICHELIN Guide entry 2024 & 2025 — listed in the MICHELIN Guide for Mexico in two consecutive editions, with an omakase built around fish sourced from local Baja waters.

Local Baja sourcing — much of the fish is brought in from La Paz and Ensenada, with house-made elements like the pork belly gyoza.

Sushi counter, cocktail bar, garden patio — a sushi bar for the omakase experience, a separate cocktail bar, and an outdoor patio by the fountain.

Heart of San José del Cabo — on Calle Ignacio Zaragoza in the historic Centro, one block from the Thursday Art Walk and steps from the main galleries.
