Jazz on the Rocks at Sunset Point

Jazz on the Rocks at Sunset Point is the first dedicated jazz club in Los Cabos, occupying the highest terrace of the Sunset Monalisa complex on the cliffs above Misiones del Cabo. The view falls straight down onto the Sea of Cortez with the Arch of Cabo San Lucas framed in the distance, and from sunset onward a live quartet anchors the room with standards, Latin jazz and the occasional surprise sit-in. The space is intimate, candle-lit and unmistakably grown-up: an open kitchen with a wood-fired oven, a long mixology bar and a wraparound terrace lined with low tables that fill quickly once the music starts.

What to order. The kitchen, led by Executive Chef Hector Morales, runs a gastropub menu with a clear Italian backbone and a strong wood-oven program. The starred all-time favorites are the Cotoletta with burrata, prosciutto and fresh basil; the Australian Wagyu New York striploin aged 90 days, served with a date-and-hibiscus puree and a foie-gras stuffed date; and the Truffle Pizza with Wagyu beef, porcini, smoked provolone and Italian truffle. Pasta lovers should look for the Lobster Tortellini in a creamy pink-peppercorn sauce, while the Seared Mayan Octopus with Italian sausage and Kalamata olives is the most ordered seafood plate. Finish with the Ruby of Monalisa, a ruby-chocolate mousse with amarena cherry that nods to the parent restaurant downstairs.

The music. Musical direction is in the hands of Tito Rodriguez, the Mexican jazz veteran behind nine editions of the Made in Mexico Jazz Festival and the San Jose Jazz Weekend. Sets run nightly from 7:00 pm to 9:15 pm, with a rotating roster of resident vocalists and visiting players; the room has hosted impromptu performances from Stevie Wonder and drummer Tony Royster Jr.

Best for. Date night, anniversaries, sunset dinners with live music, and small groups of foodies who want a real concert rather than background sound. The terrace carries a cover charge per person and is the seat to request for the view; the indoor lounge is the better pick for cooler nights or for diners who want to be closest to the band.

Getting there. The restaurant is at Carretera Transpeninsular Km 6.5, in the Misiones del Cabo development on the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. The entrance is the Misiones gate; valet parking is available at the Sunset Monalisa main building and a host walks guests up to the rooftop. From Cabo San Lucas marina the drive is roughly twelve minutes; from San Jose del Cabo around twenty-five.

Recognition. Jazz on the Rocks is a Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice 2025 honoree and is consistently listed among the best live-music dining experiences in Baja California Sur.
